Unprepared Hearts


Born in Paris in 1975, Coquelicot Mafille lives and works in Milan. 

Her artistic research centers around the game, the dreamlike dimensions, the language's spaces, the Nature and nature of human relationships. Her work invites at the perspective of memory and everyday life, investigating heterochrony and heterotopia, superimposing and mixing the order of things. Her work examines the idea of identity, its multiple derivations, its continuous overlapping of existential perception, its intimate and shared overlaps. It tells of human, animal and plant moments, made of little things of nothing, of gestures and pauses, mixed with the facts of history, politics, the absurdity that arises from them. 

She declines her work through several media, including embroidery and writing, on canvas, fabric, paper, city walls and shop windows, with thread, paint and adhesive. The work contemplates the manipulation of images - archives, video, photography, collage.

The artistic residency at 59 Rivoli she has attended during summer has ended in october 2019. Then, she featured at the group show Beyond Language/Dilin Ötesinde, collateral event at Istanbul Biennial 2019, curated by Benedetta Casagrande and Lâra Özdogan.   


Among personal exhibitions:  Lectures, Walden Café, Milano, 2019; Due respiri, un passo, Eroici Furori, Milano, 2018; Richiami, Archimania, Sanremo, 2017; in 2016, Encyclopédique, SibillaArte, Carassai, and Cafè Internazionale, Palermo.


Among group shows her work had been exhibited in 2018 at Appunti sull'universo, curated by Mariolina Cosseddu, Sassari; Frammento / Unità, Cheap Festival, Bologna; in 2017, Transcendences Bocs8, during Rome Art Week and Chinatown Biennale, Davide Gallo Gallery, Milano. In 2016 in Naples with Intragallery and Vis à Vis, Galerie de l'Institut Français de Milan.


In March 2019, having won the competition, she painted the mural La Danseuse, for the Sos Donna association with District A, Faenza. In 2017 she was also invited to make embroidery murals in the Villa Olivia Urban Park, in Castellammare del Golfo and at Safi's Alliance Française in Morocco. She attended the Festival Memorie Urbane in Fondi (LT) in 2016 and in July 2015 at LE MUR, rue Oberkampf, Paris, wall No. 190. 


In May 2018 Coquelicot realised a drawing and a poem committed by Gucci Bloom Acqua Di Fiori.
